OF PURGATORY

For the signal...
INITIAL SENTENCE
O Mary, Mother of mercy: remember the children you have in purgatory and, presenting our suffrages and your merits to your Son, intercede so that he may forgive them their debts and take them out of those darkness into the admirable light of his glory, where they enjoy your sweetest sight and that of your blessed Son.
O glorious Patriarch Saint Joseph, intercede together with your Wife before your Son for the souls of purgatory. Amen.
It is read about every day.
DAY 3
Meditation
Pain of Sense
The Lord, says the prophet, called the fire for minister of his justice, which devoured the deep abyss of iniquity and the part attached to the imperfection of the righteous. Fire, the apostle continues, tests the works of each one, consumes the bad, purifies the good ones, and whoever is saved, almost through fire is saved. From these authorities it is mainly deduced that one of the punishments of Purgatory is that of meaning caused by fire, whose sentence is common among Latinos with whom most of the Greeks also agree, begging in one and the other Church so that those blessed souls are free from those penetrating flames. Let's join our spirit with that of the aforementioned churches, and like Aaron, in the great fire of the Israeli countryside, let's put ourselves for good as mediators between God and them, let's ask him to free them from so many torments as soon as possible.
The fire of Purgatory, as the schools teach, is neither metaphorical nor ideal, but true and material, and it is so much more active and powerful, than the fire of this world, as ours is only a shadow, an image, a painted fire compared to the one that burns in the abyss. The flames applied by the Macabees to the towers of the Beanites, which soon reduced them to ashes, the oven lit by Nebuchadnezzar with fire multiplied seven times, the devouring flames of Pentapolis, which in brief moments consumed that vast province, barely represent the palest sparks of that tormenting element. Who can suffer the burning of such lively flames? But those flames are not only vehement but also wise and just, as the holy fathers teach, becoming more penetrating and atrocious where evil was more deliberate and intense. They leave nothing without punishment, severe avengers of Divine Justice, they punish in proportion to the demerits of each one and make the effects of their torment feel more painful in those powers and senses that most of them had in guilt. Man in the midst of the distractions of the world, does not raise thought so high; but see here, O Christians, what a lack of more or a lack of less means, that is, a torment more or one less, that is, a more acerb and doubled Purgatory.
Prayer
Great God!, how many purgatories we do not deserve for our countless sins and how many doubled purgatories will not suffer for their faults many souls of the deceased!, Ah Lord!, move to the mercy of them, of us. From us, forgiving ourselves in this life the blame for not paying our debts in the other with so much rigor. Of them, extinguishing the burnings of that fire so alive and that so atrociously torments them. Pour your mercies on the living and the dead, and both will eternally bless your holy name. Amen.Eternal Father, for the most precious blood of Jesus, mercy.

Let's pray. Oh my God, of whom it is proper to have compassion and forgiveness: we beg you pleading for the souls of your servants whom you have ordered to migrate from this world, especially for the souls of our relatives, friends and benefactors (they can be named by their proper name), so that you do not leave them in purgatory, but that you order your holy angels to take them and take them to the homeland of paradise, so that, because they waited and believed in you, they do not suffer the sorrows of purgatory, but possess the eternal joys. For Christ our Lord. Amen.
V. Give them, Lord, eternal rest.
R. And shine for them perpetual light.
V. Rest in peace.
R. Amen.
