Has the General of the Jesuits Converted to Catholicism?
On a visit to France and Belgium from 15 to 22 September, Father Sosa spent two days at the shrine of Paray-Le-Monial to celebrate the 350th anniversary of the apparitions of the Sacred Heart to St Margaret Mary Alacoque.
On 21 September, Father Sosa presided at a Eucharist in the chapel where the great Apostle of the Heart of Jesus, St Claude de la Colombière, a Jesuit, is buried. When John Paul II canonised Colombière in 1992, very few Jesuits were interested in the ceremony.
Since the 17th century, the Jesuits had been instrumental in promoting devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, but this all came to an end.
La Cigüeña De La Torre (InfoVaticana.com, 29 September) is cautious: "Wasn't Sosa the one who said that we don't know what Jesus said because there were no tape recorders then?"
And: "If he has not put on a show, it would be great news", but "until we see more facts, we have to be very cautious about rejoicing".
