Bishop Williamson Preaches at His 80th Birthday

On March 8, Bishop Richard Williamson celebrated his 80th birthday with a Pontifical High Mass in a hotel in England under emergency conditions. In the beginning of his excellent 40-minute-homily, he recalled his first step as a Protestant unbeliever toward the Church. At some point, he visited Ireland stopping at a monastery where he met a Benedictine monk who told him: “The help of God is closer than the door.”

Williamson’s First Contact with the Catholic Church

When he was 24-years-old, in 1964, he was teaching in Africa at a secondary school. While playing golf on a Sunday morning, a thought crossed his mind, which he believes came from God: “What are we going to hold our children to?” Williamson explains that he understood that there was an order lacking. Back in London, it became clear to him that the chaos of modern apostasy started with Protestantism. So, he began turning toward the Catholic Church. His first address happened to be the Catholic Introductions Bureau. There they asked him: “Are you looking for a wife?”

The Way to Ecône

A couple of years after converting, Williamson tried to enter St John’s Seminary in Guildford, Arundel and Brighton diocese. But it didn't work out. Quote, “I opened my big mouth a bit too much.” Then, he tried the London Oratorians. Quote, “It could have worked, but I opened my big mouth a bit too wide.” So, the Irish priest, Father Flanagan, who had literally pushed him to become a Catholic, said: “There is only one place for you and this is Écône.” Williams underlines that, Father Flanagan didn’t believe in Écône and thought that Paul VI was a saint.

A Happy Priest

When he was in Écône, Williamson was asked by a French journalist how things were going for him. He answered, "Well, everywhere but in Ecône, I feel like breaking the windows! But here, the windows and I get along well!” Williamson calls his time as a priest tiring but very happy. He quoted a French saying: “If you want to be happy for a few hours, get drunk. If you want to be happy for a few weeks, get married. If you want to be happy for the rest of your life, become a priest.”

A Scottish Cistercian

During his homily, Bishop Williamson also mentioned a Scottish Cistercian monk who was asked in a TV program by Malcolm Muggeridge: “Is your life easy?” The monk replied: “It is a difficult bed to lie on, but it is an easy bed to die on.”

I think his Mitre is a 5G antenna. If you think that is a stupid comment, then its best you don't bother reading this thread, because nothing relates to the content.

@Holy Cannoli, @elbow: What a surreal discussion: The goyim accusing each other of "who is the biggest holocaust denier" 😂. Imagine a Jewish forum where they would accuse themselves of who is the biggest "anti-Catholic". Poor Goyim... Do you Goyim not have your own topics to discuss? Why not just discuss the content of the above post? םי מבין את זה?

Now, dear elbow, you didn't miss the point, but were perfectly on track. However, my Hebrew was distorted by the system, I see now. Correct is: מי מבין את זה. You read from right to left. מ = m and י = ee. So the first word is "mee" pronounced like "me" which means "who?", like in Mi-cha-el = who is like God. Hebrew is not difficult. I recommend www.duolingo.com to learn it.

Pattfm: What does ישו אכן mean? Rather: ישוע?

Bishop Williamson has been unjustly and demonically maligned. He may have not been infallible in all his judgments, he nonetheless is a truly faithful Catholic and bishop of integrity.

@Guido Fawkes: This is about a homily not about condemning a human being. If you don't like Williamson, so it be. However, this news are not about "liking Williamson". It is a sickness to get emotional and personal. No good comes out of this.

You are a bit all over the place.
