Das syrische Gebiet Liwa Iskenderun (Sanjak of Alexandretta) wurde vor 83 Jahren von der Türkei illegal annektiert und wird heute als türkische Provinz Hatay bezeichnet. Die Menschen dort waren von Anfang an einer rücksichtslosen Türkisierung ausgesetzt.
