Francis And Orthodox: Are "Prejudices" the Problem?
Francis wants to “move forward” toward “full communion” among Christians, he told a delegation from the Ecumenical Patriarchate from Constantinople on June 28.
For Francis, the time has come “to break down ancient prejudices” - as if "prejudices" were the problem - and “to begin a new phase of relations between our Churches, marked by walking more closely together, by desiring to take real steps forward, by becoming more willing to be truly responsible for one another.”
The “growing communion” should promote “a more universal fraternity,“ Francis hopes.
He repeated what he already expressed in a November 2020 letter: that he hopes for the “restoration of full communion expressed through participation at the same Eucharistic altar.”
Francis further said that for him there is “only one thing" more serious than this COVID "crisis", namely “the risk that we will squander it, and not learn the lesson it teaches”.
