Bishop: Homosex Jesuit School No Longer Catholic

Worcester Bishop Robert McManus issued a June 16 decree prohibiting Worcester's Nativity School from identifying itself as Catholic.

The measure is a reaction to the school's refusal to remove homosex and Black-Lives-Matter flags.

The school may not preside Eucharist or other sacraments on its campus nor sponsor any eucharists at churches in the diocese.

It can also no longer conduct fundraisers involving diocesan institutions. The school serves about 60 students predominantly of color and from low-income families. It is part of the Jesuit network.

A good first step. Now the bishop of Fort Wayne-South Bend needs to make the same declaration about Notre Dame.

Did any American bishop take this step before? I don't think so.

I think it was done recently in Indianapolis.
