Rheumatoid Arthritis: Bishop Declares "Nullity" of Marriage

Micol, 35, from Stra, Italy, met her future husband in 2018, and two months later married in front of the state. The religious ceremony followed only in June 2019.

According to local media, the husband didn’t tell her that he suffered from a severe form of rheumatoid arthritis since he was a boy, fearing that she would not marry him.

Shortly after the wedding, the groom began to have physical problems, so much so that he had to stay in bed and was then forced to confess everything.

Micol didn’t take this well, “I felt betrayed and finally understood why he had been in such a hurry to marry me.” She divorced him and asked for the annulment which Padua Bishop Claudio Cipolla granted quickly.

The reason: According to the bishop, the bride was "deceived." She explained: “This process has been speeded up thanks to a novelty introduced by Francis that makes it possible, in particular cases, like this one, to avoid the lengthy procedures of the Sacra Rota.”

If there are valid grounds for nullity, there is nothing wrong with a quick decision. It looks like there were valid grounds here. This is not a good case study into the flaws of the new process.

Well, in this case we have a serious deception. The man didn't tell the truth.

Well he was bedridden and it is material as it is a severe form. He sought to deceive her for his own benefit. It is significant and he should have told her. I see nothing wrong with a declaration of nullity in this case.
