Francis: No Ash Wednesday, No Florence
Therefore, he will not be able to travel to Florence on February 27 and not preside over Ash Wednesday (March 2).

As of two days ago, he was going to walk the route from San Anselmo Benedictine Abbey to Santa Sabina (Dominican monastery) for the traditional Ash Wednesday penitenntial procession. He needn't bother. Sixty-two years ago, when John XXIII inaugurated the tradition, the route was packed with tens of thousands of Romans come out to see the Pope and join in the procession. That was the case all the way thru to the first 1-2 years of Francis. But as the people got to realize what a radical progressive he was, fewer and fewer came out, until in 2020 (February), there was no one along the route, except a few hundred assembled in front of Santa Sabina at the end of the procession. I have the last procession saved on my lap-top and watched it. No one at all came out for Francis that day....none along the route. And there were tens of thousands before..for John XXIII, Paul VI, JPII and Benedict XVI.

The Vatican has announced that due to “acute gonalgia [knee pain], for which the doctor has prescribed a period of extra rest for his leg, Pope Francis will not be able to travel to Florence on Sunday, February 27, or preside over Ash Wednesday celebrations on March 2.”
Hmmmmm? Acute knee pain should not preclude a trip to Florence, or officiating at Ash Wednesday. Francis could have gone to Florence, attended any meeting sitting down, officiating at Mass, and then back to Vatican. Likewise, he could have done the penetential procession of Ash Wednesday sitting in the "popemobile" down the procession route, then officiated at the Mass and imposition of Ashes. If he doesn't appear at Ash Wednesday at all, I suspect it is more than just his knees. He conducted his General Audience of 2/23/2022 fine, walking across the stage to his chair with little difficulty. I'll bet it's more than just his knees, or "gonalgia".

Well, he needs to concentrate of what "really matters" [sarcasm] I thought it ironic that he called for a day of prayer & fasting to end the conflict in Ukraine on March 2 = Ash Wednesday. Uh, excuse me, Catholics worldwide are bound to pray and fast in repentance for their sins on that day by Church law and sacred tradition. I can't see how someone, especially a 'prelate' could be unaware of this basic norm! highjacking it, even in this crisis, for political means is wrong.
