Gisella: There Will Be Another Virus…

La Fede Quotidiana published yesterday an interview with Gisella, a seer of Trevignano Romano, near Rome. Gisella is married and lives a normal life. She claims that Our Lady has been appearing to her for four years now. Since 2017, some apparitions occur in a chapel where the rosary is prayed and a priest is present. The chapel has been made available by the local Civita Castellana bishop.

Our Lady Spoke About the Coronavirus in September

Gisella says Our Lady told her about the coronavirus on September 28, 2019. On that day, Our Lady was very grieved and said that she was insistently praying for China and its people. Quote: "Our Lady was anxious and expressly asked to increase prayers for that country. She said that a virus would soon arrive from China."

Another Virus?

Gisella says that Our Lady, whom she calls “Mary”, is asking more than ever to intensify praying the Rosary, making penance and converting. Quote, “Recently Our Lady told me that another virus will come. She invokes prayer to avert this".

A Plan of Satan

For Gisella, the coronavirus is part of Satan's plan. The perverse fruits of it can already be seen: public Masses are suspended, the sacraments are denied, people die. Quote, “The devil is unleashed and becomes more and more aggressive because there is no faith here; we have been secularized.” Gisella says that in 2016 Our Lady told her that we would pray in houses and that we would be forced to leave our churches and abandon the chasubles. These things are happening now.

Let me guess; this seer said that the virus would appear but only said so after the virus appeared. Yeah, right

For what it's worth, @Holy Cannoli, the Bible Thumpers have their own brand of stupid going on.

These "seers" feed on a combination of vagueness and the selective confirmation-bias of their followers. Everyone of them is trying to be the next "Sister Lucia" which is why their prophecies all sound like bad copies of "Fatima".

This one is a classic. "There will be another virus". And this December when everyone is honking into their facial tissues, the seer is proven true. If a worse virus comes along, the seer is still proven true.

Let's see if we can cash in on this seer racket.

"Mary" told me that unless we pray the Rosary even moar, before the end of the year, she will burst into tears. Her heart will be so overwhelmed at our sins, the skies shall cloud up, hiding the sun, and her blessed tears will cover Europe and Murrica.

That's right, as an official self-appointed seer, I'm predicting it's gonna rain in the next few months. When it does it proves I'm aseer and all these true believers better start donating to my PayPal.

Ultraviolet,
The entire entry of Private Revelations is interesting reading. One salient point:
Divine revelation was fulfilled, completed, and perfected in Christ, the fullness and mediator, author and interpreter, purpose and center of public revelation.[1][2][3][4] Hence, public revelation is the deposit of faith and rule of faith and must be lived by all Catholics.[5] Saint Thomas AquinasMore

Divine revelation was fulfilled, completed, and perfected in Christ, the fullness and mediator, author and interpreter, purpose and center of public revelation.[1][2][3][4] Hence, public revelation is the deposit of faith and rule of faith and must be lived by all Catholics.[5] Saint Thomas Aquinas taught that all public revelation ended with the death of Saint John the Apostle.[6] Private revelations cannot surpass, correct, improve, fulfill, complete, or perfect public revelation.[7] 😲
--------------------------------------------------------------

I personally believe that trusting in seers and other assorted private revelations begins as an intellectual curiosity that, for some, morphs into an emotional necessity that requires complete conviction and uncompromising advocacy on the part of the believer. The key is that it becomes an “emotional necessity.”

Some may keep a lucky penny, a rabbits foot, four leaf clover, an old letter from a departed friend that anyone (even non religious) hold dear. The difference is that these things are held privately and not promoted like the current batch of seers and visionaries are promoted. 🤑

Personal note: I have a gold chain with crucifix that was given to me by my departed godparents on the day of my confirmation. Relatively recently added to the chain was a gold miraculous medal - a gift- given to me at Lourdes. I wear this chain constantly. It has an emotional spiritual meaning for me but it is my personal secret and will not be audaciously promoted. However, now you know. 🤐

-------------------------------------------

The crucifix, and the associated sign of the cross, is one of the key sacramentals used by Catholics to ward off evil since the time of the Early Church Fathers. The imperial cross of Conrad II (1024–1039) referred to the power of the cross against evil.[14]
A well-known amulet among Catholic Christians is the Saint Benedict medal which includes the Vade Retro Satana formula to ward off Satan. This medal has been in use at least since the 1700s, and in 1742 it received the approval of Pope Benedict XIV. It later became part of the Roman Catholic ritual.[15]
Some Catholic sacramentals are believed to defend against evil, by virtue of their association with a specific saint or archangel. The scapular of St. Michael the Archangel is a Roman Catholic devotional scapular associated with Archangel Michael, the chief enemy of Satan. Pope Pius IX gave this scapular his blessing, but it was first formally approved under Pope Leo XIII.

I appreciate the info, Holy Cannoli You're right, that is an interesting article! What it underscores (in a very scholarly way) is that these seers are either ignorant or capitalizing on the ignorance of their followers. What it underscores (in a very scholarly way) is that these seers are either ignorant or capitalizing on the ignorance of their followers. Since, as the article correctly states, private revelations can't "surpass, correct, improve, fulfill, complete, or perfect public revelation" then any seers attempting to do so automatically discredit themselves.

Scripture is filled with warnings against false prophets supposedly speaking on God's behalf, warnings against angelic "messengers" who claim similar divine origins. The former might simply be well-meaning (if deluded) dupes of the latter whose own intentions are entirely malign. If anything, such messengers should be particularly feared since they are of a much higher intelligence and therefore cunning, than the lower classes of evil spirit who simply seek to inspire fear.

Personally, I would draw a sharp distinction between things like rabbits feet, clovers, lucky whatevers and sacramentals which are recognized and endorsed by the Church. The Crucifix, Miraculous Medal, St. Benedict's Medal, the Brown Scapular, all have a long and impeccable history. Can't go wrong there. Again, this returns to a question similar to the one you asked (not so rhetorically ) a day or so earlier. Since Catholic sacramentals are efficacious, why seek out anything else?

If memory serves, The Church prohibits "lucky" whatevers as expressions of superstition bordering on magic, all contradicted by Commandment Number One. Even some "Catholic" superstitions veer into this prohibition.

This tends to be a particular problem for Asian, particularly Chinese, Catholics whose cultures are rife with literally hundreds of different "lucky" objects and even an extensive geomantic "science" of luck called Feng-shui. It's a shame since many of those trinkets are quite pretty. Catholics who immerse themselves in Asian martial arts soon run into this same problem as well. Buddhist, Taoist, or Shinto religious elements might be "traditional" during training, but they're idolatry.

A letter or a momento from family or friends wouldn't count since it's kept simply for sentimental value, not for any supposed supernatural powers. So you're good. :D

It's funny that you mention the martial arts. When I was 18 I actively practiced Karate for approximately 10 years at a dojo near my home. I was taught by Americans who were taught by Okinawans. I suppose it could happen in Chinese schools but there were no hints of any religious elements involved in our dojo. There were cultural differences in that we would bow to our sparing partner …More

There were cultural differences in that we would bow to our sparing partner both before and after kumite and we would also bow to the “floor” when entering or leaving the school.

Yes, I could break boards. Yes, I competed in tournaments, But no, I have never had to use my karate “on the street.” I’d like to think I could ‘charm’ my way out of a physical confrontation. 😉

I am physically active daily but not with the intensity I had back when I was a Sandan. (maybe a quick series at a string but that’s it) I don’t think about it but my training is always there if I need it...not that I carry myself in a haughty manner but rather with an inner assurance of the mind. This could explain why I wear my MAGA hat fearlessly. 😎

I suspect the amount of "religious education" students get depends on two things. First, the spiritual leanings of the instructor. Second, how much "enrichment" he feels will benefit his business. Martial arts instructors, like savvy restauranteurs, understand they aren't just selling a product, they're selling an experience. ;-)

You were fortunate to be studying in a "content-focused" school. If you google "karate kamiza", you'll see the "religious" aspects you were fortunate enough to miss. "Kamiza" frequently include a Shinto "torii" marking off the alcove as a "sacred" space. Photos of the style's founder are included as a way to honor and invoke his "kami" or spirit. Flowers to please the "kami"... both aspects of ancestor worship common in Asian religions.

www.jinjahoncho.or.jp/en/spiritual/index2.html

Shintoism teaches everything has a "kami" so I'd hazard a guess that the bow "to the floor" was intended to honor the "kami" of the dojo. Or it might have just been "tradition" your instructors transmitted from their own teachers.

"This could explain why I wear my MAGA hat fearlessly."

The (CCL) in your wallet might have something to do with it as well. Maybe. :D
