I find that purchasing the regular and large diameter straws is easy and inexpensive.

I pinch off one end of the straw with pliers and run a flame over the very end and make a seal (check by trying to pull air through... blowing in will add more moisture and more)... Then I pour in material I want to have available and similarly seal the other end. Clipping the straw to shorter lengths can be useful for material you want to use less of.

The shown powders in the OP are good. Not that I recommend even using the protein powers... but, if that is your choice.

I have put in dry things like coffee, tea, creamer, cocoa, salt, pepper, talcum powder, styptic power, ...for things like granular salt I make them smaller since salt will gain moisture, clump and corrupt. Alternatively, adding a simple desiccant in a larger container (e.g.: soda cracker fragment) can help reduce clumping.

I have some of granule style salt ... (it is usually potassium chloride as potassium is not easy to get in many packaged/foraged/trapped foods). But mostly, I retain rocks of salt containing other beneficial natural minerals.

Liquid things I put in are usually smaller (cut the straw to length)... they include vaseline, tincture of iodine, triple biotic ointment, lotions, DEET,... things that are needed in small doses and can be contaminated if opened. I usually make these from 0.5-1.5 inches long. One of the small 0.5 oz tubes of neosporin can fill a large number of these short straws and only one gets opened/contaminated at a time.

I have straws containing 1-2 doses of tablets/medication. That way they are easy to access, use in the field does not contaminate more than the one container and easily managed ... pouring a handfull of tablets out and putting back the excess is time consuming and contaminating.

Additionally, I have made straws filled with objects... I have a straw containing emergency fishing stuff like hooks, weights, line, I have micro SD cards with valuable information in some...

Make several of the various types and put a few into different places so they are closer at hand when needed. Put a few into your purse/backpack... off you go ready for a day trip or a getaway bag.

No new tricks here... all from my elders.

The use of plastic straws like this was added by my fathers generation as paper straws were still used for my granddad who used wax to seal.

Oh... I try to use scissors to open them. But, since I am only without a knife during air flight, I carefully use it as well.
