Francis' Third Audience For Zelensky: Catholic Church Banned By Russia

Francis received the Ukrainian President Zelensky for 35 minutes on October 11 to produce some propaganda pictures.

It was their third meeting since the beginning of the Russian-Ukrainian war, and the second in 2024.

Zelensky came in a large cavalcade through Rome.

The Vatican statement said nothing about the talks between Francis and Zelensky: "The discussions in the Secretariat of State [Cardinal Parolin] were dedicated to the state of the war and the humanitarian situation in Ukraine, as well as to the ways in which it could be brought to an end, leading to a just and stable peace in the country."

In addition, "some questions concerning religious life" were discussed.

Francis has publicly condemned Ukraine's ban on the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate in the country in summer. Ukraine claimed that the church was a means for Russia to spy on the country.

Russia has done the same. In December 2023, the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church reported that Russian authorities had banned the church in the occupied Zaporizhzhya region. The Russians also reportedly banned the Knights of Columbus and the Catholic charity Caritas.

Zelensky wrote after the meeting that he was counting on Francis' help to "bring back Ukrainians who have been captured by Russia".

The Ukraine is a province of Russia…and it’s ridiculous to think of it as an independent country. Even more ridiculous is that it’s fighting an un winnable war. Russia has shown tremendous restraint so far, as she realises how pathetic it is for such an internal squabble to be allowed to be used by forces against the country. If crazy camala wins the US presidency, Russia will unleash a massive attack between November and January 5th. And China will seize the opportunity and invade Taiwan.
Prayer and fasting is the only real way of avoiding this outcome and this escalation.

Set the Kool Aid down and back away from it.

Luigi, in the event that Kamala becomes president, in my opinion your prediction seems very interesting, and probable. Maybe for this reason zelensky sticks to talking to bergoglio.

P. O'B

Luigi, I attend a Ukrainian Catholic parish, and the people there certainly do not consider Ukraine as a province of Russia. From our point of view, it may be hard to tell the difference. The languages are similar but not identical, and Ukraine remembers centuries of having to answer to the Czar and then the Communists.
Having said that, I agree with just about everything else you wrote above. The US and NATO are responsible for pushing Putin into the war. Putin is no saint, but we want Russia to eat crow and adopt our perverted morals.

Luigi Scorsoppi

@P. O'B The Ukraine has always been a province of Russia. Kiev was the first city of the Kievan-Russ empire. The only major difference between The Ukrainian and Russian language is that the Ukrainians reverted to writing using the Roman alphabet at some point in time from the Glagolitic and Cyrillic alphabets invented by Sts Cyril and Methodius, brothers and missionaries to the Slavs.
The Ukraine as in The Crimea or The Palestine, always provinces or areas and were never ever independent nations in history. Do let your Ukrainian Catholic Parishioners know that they should study their history. Plenty of people have delusions, some men think they are women for example. But, they are simply delusional.
@SonoftheChurch I think perhaps you misspelled your tag? The last bit should start with a B?

Luigi Scorsoppi

@jose g rodriguez Zelinskyy will talk to anyone who’d listen. But he knows that The Ukraine cannot win this war, which is desired by the globalist machine. Kamala Harris is just a petty functionary, a bit of window dressing of US style “democracy”. She’d never be in charge of anything, but would allow the power that manipulates the Democrat presidency into a global war in Europe, Middle East and Asia. That’s what the globalists want, and that’s what they will get.
Unless we pray!

P. O'B

Luigi, we are finding less agreement. The Ukrainians use the Cyrillic alphabet. Kiev existed centuries before Moscow.

Luigi Scorsoppi

@P. O'B you’re quite correct. Kiev was the first city in the Kievan - Russ and it’s much older than Moscow as the first city of Russia.
Ask your Ukrainian Parishioners, and they will confirm that Ukrainians use the Roman alphabet (although the USSSR decreed a common use of Cyrillic throughout, including in the province of The Ukraine)

P. O'B

Luigi, I sing in the Ukrainian Catholic choir here. The Ukrainian letters are all Cyrillic, and I have been attending there for fifty years. Always Cyrillic.

Luigi Scorsoppi

@P. O'B as above…The Ukraine, being a province of Russia, of course used Cyrillic writing. The old liturgical texts in the orthodox would be Glagolitic. Ukrainian nationalists however have for a long time adopted the Latin alphabet, make enquiries and you will find out.

P. O'B

Luigi, we are having a good time. I'll take your word that Ukrainian nationalists use the Latin alphabet. But you did originally post: "the Ukrainians reverted to writing using the Roman alphabet at some point in time," without limiting specifying "nationalists."
I have never met a Ukrainian nationalist. And out here in the western USA, I have never seen a Ukrainian word in the Latin alphabet. But if they do use Latin letters, few Ukrainians will be able to read their stuff. And Ukrainian is easier to read in Cyrillic alphabet than it would be in the Latin alphabet. Your move.

Francis needs to be reminded the pope is supposed to lead the Catholic church and be the vicar of Christ, NOT a political or environmental leader. Catholics do NOT have to listen to him outside of his office, i.e., Catholic dogma and adherence thereof. Nothing more.

Tony M

@Marysrose Jorge teaches the opposite of Catholic Dogma & and practices the opposite of adherence to it.....had you not noticed he is a manifest heretic??? Since he is a heretical anti-pope we do not have to listen to him on doctrinal matters. Read up on what the great & erudite Archbishop Vigano has explained about the true nature of Bergoglio's activity from the Chair of Peter. There is a mountain of information regarding this.

DEAR DEFINITELYPOPESPLAINERS: ACCORDING TO PAUL IV AND THE CHURCH DOCTORS HE LOST HIS PAPACY LONG AGO, IF IN FACT HE EVER POSSESSED IT. Popes can err slightly but cannot profess formal heresy (knightsrepublic.com)

Marysrose

Duh. He's an apostate. The Catholics who follow him don't know the faith and think they have to follow every word he says. Catholics should understand the faith and understand what the office of pope is intended to be.

jose g rodriguez

Tal vez sea mi imaginacion, pero, segun las fotos, bergoglio se esta achaparrando.
Como corresponde a un enano en la FE.

Louis IX

He puts on a suit to visit Congress but dresses like a bum to visit Francis. What a putz.

SonoftheChurch

So?...the Pope dresses like a bum. His Holiness doesn't even wear his Papal Coat of Arms on his fascia. And don't even let me get started on his shoes. Such horror shouldn't be inflicted upon the whole Church like that.....a total embarrassment.

Louis IX

I look forward to when the Church has a pope who understands the true dignity of the office and how it should be shown to the world.

SonoftheChurch

So do I….so do I, my friend. But with the appointment of this latest gang of voting-eligible Red Hats who, after December 8th, will make up the majority of the Sacred College at the next Conclave, we’d better not hold our breath.

Luigi Scorsoppi

@SonoftheChurch so the Pope to be Pope must have his coat of Arms on his fascia? And perhaps dress in a heavy thread silk soutane? And wear red shoes? Silly childish ideas. Papal attire has changed with time. Popes didn’t always wear white. Pope Julius II wore a suit of armour at times and rode a battle steed. Pope Francis wants to portray an image of holy poverty. BXVI wore a black jumper inside his outfit when he first appeared on the loggia. It looked highly irregular.

P. O'B

With all the money the US has given him, you would think that Zelensky would wear better clothes. Maybe a visit to a thrift store would help him to spruce up.

Luigi Scorsoppi

It’s his image…action man…just come from the front dontcha know..didn’t have time to change and shave.
