It was honestly quite embarrassing to hear a band welcoming the Pope into St. Peter’s Square to the strains of the ABBA song, Dancing Queen. You can watch that cringe-worthy performance here.
Yet this song is something of a theme among some of the recent post-conciliar Popes.
The clip below comes from the film “The Two Popes” and has the character of Francis Bergoglio whistling “Dancing Queen” in a bathroom with Pope Benedict XVI.
In the movie, that scene moves into a montage of reports about a new conclave, as the ABBA rendition plays in the background.
Quite the coincidence.
