Bishop Rey "Dissolves" Roman Rite Benedictines

Fréjus-Toulon Bishop Dominique Rey, France, has "dissolved" a small community of Roman Rite Benedictines in Brignoles on June 10.

Canonically, the monastery was an “association of the faithful.” In April, its superior, Father Alcuin Reid, was ordained a priest without Rey's permission outside France by an unnamed bishop in communion with Rome.

The diocese explained that Reid had refused to meet Bishop Rey and didn’t disclose the name of the ordaining bishop despite several requests. Rey has previously celebrated at the monastery and had maintained good contacts with Reid for years.
