Catholic Weddings in Ireland Die Out

IonaInstitute.ie reported on 30th September that a quarter of all weddings in Ireland last year were largely "New Age" in character. Christian ceremonies accounted for just over a third of the total.

- In 1994, 15,200 Catholic marriages took place, accounting for 91.5% of the total. Last year, this figure had fallen to just 34.3% of all ceremonies.

- In 2023, a group called Entheos performed 623 weddings, far more than the 242 celebrated by the Church in Ireland. This 'non-denominational' religion was founded by a certain Karen Dempsey (known as 'the Bald Priestess') during the coronavirus lockdown of 2020.

- An organisation called the Spiritualist Union of Ireland is the largest single provider of opposite-sex weddings after the Catholic Church, with 1,604 or 7.8% of all marriages last year. When weddings performed by other similar organisations are included, they account for almost a quarter of the total and the figure is rising.

The study was written by columnist Breda O'Brien, who comments: "Unless the churches find a way to respond, the current trends are likely to get worse from their point of view, and will very likely extend to funerals in due course."

This seems about right. I remember Boston publishing that weddings had declined by about 85% from 1986 to 2006 (20k to 3k). Boston doesn’t publish sacramental stats anymore, but, it’s safe to say, there hasn’t been a rebound, and now most Catholics aren’t buried with a funeral Mass either.

The Catholic ceremonies for being hatched, matched and dispatched are no longer Catholic and they welcome pagan ideas, which replace traditional norms.

The same thing is happening with funerals. Just this month, I've had friends who lost loved ones (in one case "died suddenly in their sleep at middle age" 🤔 ) and when I inquired when the funerals of their relatives were going to take place [I like to pray for the deceased on those days], I was told that no funeral service or even burial was scheduled! Instead they opted for a "celebration of life" ceremony [not in a church] at a later date and the bodies are either cremated or one was 'donated to science'!!! And these folks are lifelong Catholics!! That's why I've instructed my family to perform ALL the customary Catholic rites for the dead when I die. LORD HAVE MERCY. 🙏

Everyday for Life Canada

When we choose to abandon the true story of Christ, we don’t give up on stories. We just adopt one that prevails in the current secular culture. We are defined by the story we live by. And there is no neutral story in life.

In such a short time, the puppets of the false prophet have destroyed the Faith in Ireland. By the way, should we be surprised that they also condemned the Book of Truth? Know them by their fruits...
