Francis approved on April 1 two liturgical texts for the coronavirus panic.
The first is a “Mass in Times of a Pandemic,” the second an additional intention for this year’s lockdown Good Friday liturgies.
ChurchMilitant.com observes that the Pandemic Eucharist was stripped of any references to the "wrath of God" and to “repentance.”
Its collect asks God to “look with compassion on the afflicted, grant eternal rest to the dead, comfort to mourners, healing to the sick, peace to the dying, strength to health care workers, wisdom to our leaders, and the courage to reach out to all in love.”
Instead, the Roman Rite “Mass for Deliverance from Death in Time of Pestilence” implores God in its collect to “withdraw the scourge of Thy wrath” and “welcome with pardon Thy people's return to Thee.”
