New York Cardinal Wants to Spend More Time with His … Dog
Confession. New York Cardinal Timothy Dolan told the New York Post that he also goes to confession, because Cardinals need confession more than others. He revealed that he confesses in street cloths and the confessors don’t recognise him. Once a confessor, during a confession mentioned – quote – “a great article by Archbishop Dolan on the sacrament of confession.” But Dolan didn’t tell the priest that he was the one who had written it.
Passport. Dolan calls himself a proud US citizen with a normal American passport. Only when he is on special missions – for instance when he went to Cuba – the Vatican issued him with a Vatican diplomatic passport. Very likely, Dolan would also be entitled to receive an Irish passport.
Campbell’s funeral parlor. Speaking about his daily life, Dolan says, “I’m up early, around 5, go down to the kitchen microwave and make my own instant oatmeal and coffee.” He says that the ground floor of his palace is so ornate “it’s like Campbell’s funeral parlor but my quarters are simple.” Talking about private matters - quote: “What clothes have I? Black cassock and black shoes. My room’s simple. I can handle my own cigar collection, I put my feet up, I read mysteries, but I won’t let you examine my bar area.”
Pickles. Every few months Dolan goes home to spend a few days with his 92-year-old mother near Saint Louis, and to play gin rummy or horseshoes with my nieces and nephews. When he is retired, he would like to have more speaking engagements, give retreats to priests, take longer vacations, spend more time with his dog Pickles.
