The New Knights Templar
@occasnltrvlr I didn't see anywhere in this gentleman's video where he was claiming any authoritative position, in fact he is very clear he is a baptized Catholic, married, and father of seven children. The Catholic Church teaches ALL Catholics have a right to preach and spread the Word of God. No one is forcing you to watch his videos. If you can't be polite, go leave comments on YouTube.

Claiming that one's teaching is catechesis is not claiming an authoritative position?

You are confusing catechesis with evangelism.

"Catechism for Catholic Fathers and Husbands", as a title, makes it pretty clear that this gentleman's intention is catechesis, and not evangelism.

Concerning all Catholics, we are expected to evangelize (including announcing Christ, per paragraphs 904 & 905), …More

"Catechism for Catholic Fathers and Husbands", as a title, makes it pretty clear that this gentleman's intention is catechesis, and not evangelism.

Concerning all Catholics, we are expected to evangelize (including announcing Christ, per paragraphs 904 & 905), but the mantle of teacher (in matters of faith) belongs to the ordained, with participation by laity as specified in paragraph 906:

"Lay people who are capable and trained may also collaborate in catechetical formation, in teaching the sacred sciences, and in use of the communications media."

This video does not in any way appear to be collaboration (with the ordained). Perhaps I am wrong, and could be corrected on this point.

I don't mean anyone any harm, and it is not my intention to be a "Debbie Downer", but having any baptized, confirmed, married parent begin teaching (in matters of faith) is the kind of thinking that has led to there being some 44,000 or so Protestant denominations.

Concerning my being polite, I'd rather do my best to try and stick with the truth, than just jump on the "Nice Train", and smile & wave. Absent training and collaboration, lay people are not qualified (nor rightfully permitted) to be catechists.

You made some fair and legitimate points, I was confusing catechesis with evangelizing, my error. But you're still overlooking 1 detail, which is, you were impolite and now you're trying to make excuses for it. Truth doesn't eliminate politeness, truth and politeness go hand in hand. Ever heard of "sins of the tongue"?

In fact, truth is conveyed much more effectively when it is presented in a way which opens the person to your message. This is the first thing you're taught in an apologetics course.

As far as your original comment and truth, whether or not someone is authoritative has nothing to do with them sitting in a vehicle and recording a video post, he has seven children, perhaps that it the only peaceful place he can find. Or are you suggesting no authoritative person is able to do this? This doesn't imply that they usually do, this is stating that they are able to do so if they choose. In addition, what you find difficult to accept, doesn't represent the truth, it represents exactly what you said it does. Or are you claiming everything you find difficult to accept is the truth?

So let me rephrase my concern. If you can't be polite when you correct someone, you need to reevaluate your purpose and the result. If your main concern was what you stated to me, why not try telling him that, because you came no where close to that in your original comment? There are human beings on the other end of comments, so not having to "jump on the 'Nice Train'" is a poor excuse nor not being polite. God Bless!

I find it a little bit difficult to accept as authoritative someone who sits in a car talking to the instrument cluster as if it is me... .
