Now as far as Gemma goes I am not as discerning as you and perhaps my confirmation bias kicks in when I am less knowledgeable. However, taken as a whole, the pieces all neatly fit into place. The point of contention between us is manufactured event vs. opportunism. We agree something weird is going on. I just find arguments such that the author puts forward are simultaneously glib and overthought. In this case, the theory is overthought in the analysis of the relationships, yet glib in that it boils down to well-connected families intermarry, which isn't a startling revelation. Occam was a philosophical heretic, but his razor is useful.
Great claims require great evidence, and I have found that to be lacking in many of these articles.
