Anti-Liturgy Policy by Bishop of Charlotte Authentic, Yet Stalled For Now
The once flourishing Charlotte Diocese is currently being ruined by Bishop Michael Martin. He finished the draft in spring 2025, but abandoned the plan due to strong opposition from the council of priests and from an ad hoc liturgical working group he had established.
Both groups informed the bishop that he would be acting contrary to the General Instruction of the Roman Missal.
"The bishop didn't want to implement the policy without the support of the priests' council," said an anonymous source, adding: "He felt differently about the Roman Mass because he had the support of Traditionis Custodes. However, everybody who talked about the Novus Ordo plans, across the entire theological spectrum of the priests' council, panned them."
Meanwhile, while seemingly shelving his broader plans, Monsignor Martin has told priests that he intends to prohibit the use of Communion benches for distributing Holy Communion.
Bishop Martin may eventually publish different elements of the failed policy draft piecemeal over time.
