Teacher Immediately Fired

Sunita Joseph, a teacher at Catholic Mount Carmel school in Central India was suspended by the Principal, Father Mathew Karickal, for having – quote – “hurt religious sentiments of Hindus.” Sunita had shared a picture in an official group of school students showing a dog urinating near the idol of Lord Ganesha. The post was accompanied with the following comment: “The dog is convinced that this is a stone and nothing else. But don’t know why the majority of Indians don’t understand this simple thing.” Father Karickal was furious and wrote: “This matter, even if it happened by mistake also, will not be tolerated in any case.”

Francis: “Continue to Perfume the World”

Francis wrote a special message to the Little Franciscan Sisters of the Sacred Heart for the 100th anniversary of the death of their foundress Mother Maria Margherita Caiani. Diplomatically, he warns the sisters to not take refuge in a past that is no more or a tomorrow that is not yet. Francis expresses the wish that the Holy Spirit may give the sisters the strength to rediscover the freshness and the ability to continue to perfume the world with the gift of their lives.
