Vatican Seeks to Reconnect to the Internet - via Commissions and Study Groups
On Tuesday, the General Secretariat of the Synod published two final reports from the study groups established for the October 2024 Synod.
Study Group Number 3 concerns a comprehensive strategy for Christian mission in the digital age (30 pages).
Study Group 4 concerns the reorientation of priestly formation (25 pages).
Cardinal Mario Grech, Secretary General of the Synod, claimed that these reports are "not just simple bureaucratic cooperation" – and thereby identified the problem.
The reports' language is repetitive and employs dense synodal vocabulary, frequently referencing the Final Document of the Synod, Vatican II texts and papal addresses.

The Group 3 report on missions in the digital environment recognises that the Church must be present in a culture increasingly shaped by algorithms and online communities: "Digital mission must become part of regular Church structures instead of remaining a niche project."
