French Bishop: Pro-Euthanasia Lawmakers Cannot Receive Communion

“When a member of parliament identifies as Catholic while supporting legislation that authorizes the taking of life, he objectively places himself in opposition not only to the Church's constant teaching but also to a fundamental principle of human reason,” Bishop Marc Aillet of Bayonne told France-Catholique.fr on July 7.

Members of the French National Assembly are expected to vote on the euthanasia bill on July 15.

Bishop Aillet said euthanasia is “an intrinsically evil act, regardless of the circumstances” and that Catholics engaged in public life cannot ignore this teaching, “If they are aware of this inconsistency, they will no longer be able to receive Holy Communion.”

Responding to the presentation of euthanasia as an “act of humanity,” Bishop Aillet said that a truly fraternal society does not respond to suffering by eliminating the person who suffers.

He added that this message must be proclaimed despite “the dominant discourse, which seriously clouds consciences,” and “the media bombardment influenced by powerful lobbying groups.”

Bishop Aillet also questioned whether France wants Catholic healthcare institutions to close or relocate abroad: “Are we going to imprison religious sisters who refuse to comply with this law?”

Anybody know why Canada's Prime Minister, Mark Carney. is still allowed to turn up at Mass and be given Communion even though he is a long, continuing, unrepentant advocate of both the country's rapidly expanding murder regimes (aka assisted suicide and abortion)? Do the bishops and archbishops and Vatican ambassador up there not follow the news?

Thank you, your Excellency, but it is almost too little too late. Most of the clergy were silent on so many issues like abortion, birth control, euthanasia and sodomy so now it will only be an intervention from God to stop this immoral filth.
