Dixson D'Souza SVD ST. JOSEPH FREINADEMETZ:
An Exemplary Missionary Disciple for THE WORD IN THE WORLD
This video is a crisp presentation on St. Joseph Freinademetz, the First Missionary of the Society of the Divine Word (SVD) to China. He stands as a hallmark of an Authentic Missionary, a fusion of the Spirit of Love, staunch Faith, adaptation, and self-giving sacrifice who became “all things to all people” (1 Corinthians 9,22). January 29th is the Feast day of St. Freinademetz who was called FU SHENFU (meaning Happy Priest) by the Chinese. St. Joseph Freinademetz stands as an inspiration for Missionaries of all ages.

The Script of this Video is here below:
“TOUGH TIMES NEVER LAST, BUT TOUGH PEOPLE DO.” (Robert H. Schuller)
This is an apt quote for St. Joseph Freinademetz. A Man for all seasons, from the alps of SouthTyrol to the plains of China. A fusion of orthodoxy and orthopraxis. For whom Poverty meant adaptation of the local people; Chastity meant being deeply interested in the people he met and respecting them; Obedience meant cooperating closely with his superiors and being always ready to accept God’s will.
Joseph, an embodiment of love, fidelity, courage, and perseverance in proclaiming God’s Word. Who was prepared to die a thousand deaths for the sake of Mission. Neither appointments nor disappointments, bodily exertions nor malicious slanders, not painful beatings nor dangerous death-threats, could lessen his love and passion. “The only language that everyone understands is the language of love”. This summed up his whole life and being: who learnt to love China and its people and became a Chinese to the Chinese; who desired to be a Chinese even in Heaven; who by his missionary enterprise became all things to all people; who taught Authentic Mission Spirituality lies in adaptation that transforms the Inner Person; who found in God his foothold and his strength, in him the center and goal of his whole interior and exterior life.
St. Joseph Freinademetz- A truly apostolic man, a priest after the heart of God, a missionary with a passion for the Mission, and an authentic missionary of the WORD DIVINE. We celebrate him on January 29th. May he intercede for us all.
