Mama Bergoglio Didn't Agree

During a March 25 audience for 80 parents of Spanish Jesuits, Francis recalled that his mother initially didn't agree with him joining the Jesuits, but, nevertheless, accompanied him along with the father on the bus (VaticanNews.va).

Francis also praised the former Jesuit General Pedro Arrupe (+1991), who led the order into an unprecedented decadence. He called this downfall a "renewal" which came about by relaxing (= secularising) the rigid discipline which used to make the Jesuits so strong, efficient and attractive.
