Either, "I didn't edit (i.e actually read the cartoon) as my job description mandates." or, "I didn't think that I would get into so much hot water for it." I do not have any 'schadenfreude' for this editor's situation, but this smacks of utter incompetence.

Even if we accept the position that it is acceptable to receive these shots (which, though debatable, is the position of competent authority, and should be accepted, along with its caveat about voluntariness), it is inexcusable for the Church to be aiding and abetting people who lie about what these shots do. Every day, we see proof that they do not prevent people from contracting covid, or from spreading it. This is beyond “remote material cooperation.” It is, at least “proximate material cooperation,” if not formal cooperation in the grave evil of lying on a grand scale. Beyond that, no one who would promote the sin of schadenfreude should be working for any diocese.
