Two New Machines And A Speed Milestone

Gloria.tv is not just a video host or an editorial news site, but a full-fledged social media. That means networking, news, socialising and entertainment by Catholics for Catholics.
When a user who logs in with a username accesses Gloria.tv, the database is queried 3,000 (!) times, not counting the graph-database. Gloria.tv displays different content for each of you, depending on your timeline, notifications, contacts, likes, chats and so on. But that doesn't stop Gloria.tv from being fast.
Behind what Gloria.tv displays on your computer screen is a lot of computing, converting videos, automatic subtitles, translations, filtering against copyright infringement, porn, spam, curses/hate and other things.
Since November, two new machines ($5,000 each) have been taking over many of the necessary tasks (AMD Threadripper 3960X and NVIDIA 3090). The processing has been completely redesigned to work with graphics cards - and it is highly optimised.
For example, NVIDIA has increased the speed of automated language translation from 25 words per second to 700 words per second.
Our software is scalable, i.e. open to any number of users, and still works at VERY low cost. In 2021, Gloria.tv spent around €35,000 on servers, data centres and related technologies.
According to leading data analyst SimilarWeb.com, Gloria.tv is the largest Catholic website on the internet. We know that much smaller websites in the Catholic and Christian milieu invest ten times or more in machines.
