Benedict XVI Read Traditionis Custodes "With Pain in His Heart"
Benedict XVI read Francis' Traditionis custodes "with pain in his heart", Archbishop Gänswein told BenedictusXvi.org (2 January).
The measure was a "break" for Benedict, he said who had wanted to give Roman-Rite Catholics "inner peace" with Summorum Pontificum (2007).
Gänswein added that for centuries the Roman Mass had been the "source of spiritual life" for many people and "nourishment for many saints". He could not imagine "that it is something that is no longer any good".
That applies to "many young people" who "don't really understand the whole fuss about the Council any more." Gänswein is "not entirely" comfortable with taking this treasure away from people.
