John Paul II’s Minister of Culture in the Eye of the Storm

• Three French bishops have been wrongly/convicted for not reporting abuse: Pican (Bayeux-Lisieux, + 2018), Fort (ex-Orléans), Barbarin (ex-Lyon, miscarriage of justice); eight are accused of sexual assault: Gaschignard (ex-Aires et Dax), di Falco (ex-Gap), Lafont (ex-Cayenne), Santier (ex-Créteil), Ricard (ex-Bordeaux), plus three others whose names are not public.
• In recent days, a call for testimonies from women who were in contact with former Curia Cardinal Paul Poupard, 92, appeared on social media.
• In August 2006, a complaint was lodged against Poupard for exhibitionism in front of minors under 15 years of age, which was dismissed by the Rennes Public Prosecutor.
• In 2016, the same case was referred to the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith via Bishop Rey of Fréjus-Toulon, but was dismissed because Poupard's intentions could not be established with moral certainty.
• In 2013, a couple visited Poupard in Rome and were allegedly victims of his “inappropriate gestures and inappropriate familiarity.” Poupard is known for being very “touchy-feely.”
• In the following years, the couple heard of similar incidents spread over several decades.
