Sister Mary Margaret Kreuper, 79, of Los Angeles, USA, pleaded guilty on Tuesday as part of a deal with prosecutors for stealing about $835,000 to pay for her gambling trips, Associated Press reports.
Kreuper became a sister at 18, and was an elementary school principal for 28 years at St. James Catholic School in Torrance, California.
Her misappropriation of funds lasted for over a decade ending in 2018. The money came from donations, tuition and school fees.
The sister could face up to 40 years in federal prison. Her attorneys said her “very remorseful for what happened.”
