Cardinal Sarah published on January 14 two statements about his book on celibacy.
The first recalls how it came about (Italian and French press statement).
The second statement confirms that the book, originally presented as being co-written with Benedict XVI, will now be attributed to Sarah alone but “with a contribution of Benedict XVI.”
Sarah does not answer Archbishop Gänswein's claim that Benedict didn't mean to coauthor the book.
However, he says in the first statement, that he proposed Benedict XVI in October to publish a book together.
On November 19, Sarah sent the complete manuscript to Benedict, including the cover, and the common introduction and conclusion.
Benedict XVI replied, “For my part, the text [of the book] can be published in the form you have in mind.”
