The Vatican announced on July 13 that Giuseppe Profiti, 56, and Massimo Spina, 57, were indicted for misappropriation of funds of the Foundation Bambino Gesù. Profiti was its president and Spina its treasurer. The foundation supports the activities of the Vatican's Bambino Gesù Children's Hospital in Rome.
They are accused of having paid 422.005,16 Euros for the renovation of an apartment destined for the former Secretary of State, Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone. The money benefited the construction company Gianantonio Bandera. The payment was made in November 2013 and May 2014. The court case will start on July 18.
