Bishops "Not Obliged" to Report Abuses to Police

“As a bishop I have no obligation to report a pedophile priest, this is the task of those who have the parental responsibility,” retired Palestrina Bishop Domenico Sigalini explained to LaFedeQuotidiana.it (March 15).
For Segalini it is clear that a bishop will inform the parents and help them to approach the police, “But if they do not act, it is not my task to do so.”
The task of a bishop is another, Segalini points out, “As a bishop I have the task to help the priest to correct his behavior.” And, “As a pastor I must help him to change” and to ensure “that he can no longer harm anybody.”
According to Italian law only the legal custodians of a minor are legitimized to report abuses.

Cardinal Pell frequently pointed out the grave flaws in any system which puts the burden on Church leaders to do the (hearsay) reporting of accusations to the police rather than the actual eye witnesses themselves.

Almost every case of alleged "cover up" and failure to report, and supposed conflict of interest have been the result of accusers NOT doing what they were told to do by Church leaders like Cardinal Pell - go to the police. Tell the police.

The parish office is NOT a police station.

Don't drag Cardinal Pell into this, Sweetheart.
You're attitude is the precise attitude that lead to this.

These SOBs should be placed under the jail along with the molesters and people like you who try to place blame on the victims and their families. You are disgusting. 🤬

Pray for him, when bishops and priests sin, they sin triple fold. In other words, the greater the responsiblity with God the more severe the punishment...

How well has that been working out so far, Bishop? 🤦

Just when you think the Catholic hierarchy couldn’t be any dumber than they have been and are finally seriously in the process of reestablishing trust among Catholic laity, Bishop Domenico Segalini comes along and openly suggests that he and other Catholic bishops should NOT, I repeat, they should NOT go to civil authorities when they have credible evidence of sexual molestation committed by Catholic clerics.

Why would an Italian clerical meatball say such a thing? Could the bishop possibly have a vested interest in “protecting” homos? 😲

In September 2016, Palestrina Bishop Domenico Sigalini complimented the two homosexuals who contracted the first gay pseudo-marriage in Rome after its introduction, "That two friends who love each other, have the same rights as any other couple is out of discussion.”

Most 'knowledge' which a Bishop might have comes from people who should have already reported the matter to the police.
Church policy is, and has been for decades now, that victims and their guardians should take their accusations to the police. PERIOD!

Whether or not the child's guardians first report the abuse to the police does not in any way preclude a bishop from reporting the matter as well. In fact, they should make a report without hesitation unlike what the Italian Meatball Domenico Sigalini advises.

You haven’t been keeping up, have you? Bishops (even Cardinals) have known and did nothing for decades. www.complicitclergy.com/…/1-3-of-mahonys-…

That complicity is, in part, the reason for this.

PERIOD!
Sorry you’re having your “PERIOD!” That must be the reason for your 🤦
