The Knights left their homes to go fight in strange lands. They prayed for decisive victories so that there would be peace. Da pacem, Domine, translated into English as "Give Peace O Lord.“ An antiphon of the 6th or 7th century. By a Bull of Pope Nicholas III, 1279, it was ordered to be sung at every mass before the Agnus Dei. In the Paris Breviary of 1643, it is given along with a Collect for Peace, which occurs in the Sacramentary of Gelasius, A.D. 494, as a Commemoration de Pace per Annum. Lyrics in Latin: Da pacem, Domine In diebus nostris Quia non est alius Qui pugnet pro nobis Nisi tu Deus noster Fiat pax in virtute tua Et abundantia in turribus tuis. Da pacem, Domine In diebus nostris Quia non est alius Qui pugnet pro nobis Nisi tu Deus noster.
