Gänswein Turns 65: "I Try Not to Bemoan My Fate"

On 30 July, Georg Gänswein celebrated his 65th birthday. He feels similar to some pensioners when they fall into a hole on their 65th birthday, he told KNA.de.

"And yet, as a man in his mid-sixties, one still wishes for perspectives." In January 2020, Francis took revenge on him because Benedict XVI had published a contribution for a book by Cardinal Sarah defending priestly celibacy. Gänswein was dismissed as Prefect of the Papal Household.

Today, he feels punished for something others got him into. "Those were difficult months," he confesses. Regarding this, "Francis is and remains a mystery to me."

"The issue of the Sarah book may have been clumsy, but I didn't do anything wrong."

"I try not to quarrel with my situation anymore and do what my task is," he says.

However, Sarah called Gänswein in the book saga a "liar".

Gänswein was a "liar" in book affair. "Nothing done wrong" looks different.
