Catholic Bishop Slams Biden for Supporting Abortion: “63 Million Babies Have Been Murdered. It’s a Bloodbath”

Catholic Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone called out President Joe Biden this week for supporting the abortion “bloodbath” that has destroyed nearly 63 million unborn babies’ lives in the United States.

The San Francisco archbishop has been outspoken in his criticism of political leaders like Biden who profess to be Catholic while openly advocating for the killing of unborn babies in abortions.

In a new interview with America Magazine, Cordileone pointed out that Biden no longer even claims to personally oppose abortion.

“He seems to be more guided by the Democratic Party than his Catholic faith on the issues where we’re not in harmony,” the archbishop said. Biden “recently said that he no longer believes that life begins at conception,” a notion that not only contradicts Catholic teachings but also “sound science,” Cordileone continued.

Emphasizing that his motives are pastoral, not political, the archbishop said he is praying and fasting for Biden and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who lives in his diocese.

“How can you argue with that? This is a very serious issue,” Cordileone said. “Since Roe, more than 60 million babies have been murdered in their mother’s wombs. I mean, it’s a bloodbath, not to mention the mothers who have been harmed and dealing with those scars, those emotional scars and psychological scars, and very often are not allowed to even talk about it.”

All too often, women who regret aborting their unborn babies are silenced, he said.

“They’re feeling this hole, this anguish inside,” the archbishop said. “Those who say that they’re for women, their response is, ‘You’re not supposed to be feeling that.’ So then they have to bury it.”

Cordileone criticized “pro-choice” leaders for only promoting one choice: abortion. Meanwhile, he said pro-life advocates are the ones really caring for women, including women who have had abortions.

“Who offers them healing opportunities? We do,” he said. “Who offers them opportunities to give birth? There are many choices. Yes, abortion is only one choice. It’s the one wrong choice.”

“Our pro-life crisis pregnancy clinics that are run by people of faith, they’re the ones who are pro-choice because they’re giving her every choice, except one,” the archbishop continued. “These abortion clinics, they give her only one choice. And one choice is no choice. You have to have at least two options to have a choice.”

In September, Cordileone and the Benedict XVI Institute led more than 12,000 people in a prayer campaign for Pelosi. Though she professes to be Catholic, Pelosi and the U.S. House passed a radical pro-abortion bill that would legalize abortions for basically any reason up to birth nation-wide and force taxpayers to pay for them.

Cordileone described the bill as “child sacrifice,” saying it is what “one would expect from a devout Satanist, not a devout Catholic.”

Earlier this year, Cordileone also published a strong pastoral letter making the case that pro-abortion politicians should be denied Communion. He said this action may be “the only recourse a pastor has left” if pro-abortion politicians obstinately persist in their sin and refuse to repent.

U.S. Catholic bishops have expressed serious concerns that some politicians, through their prominence and actions, are creating “scandal” for the church by making it seem acceptable to be Catholic and support abortion.
