In 1344, St Bridget founds the Order of the Most Holy Saviour, the Brigittines. One distinctive feature of the houses of the Order was that they were double monasteries, with both men and women forming a joint community, though with separate cloisters. The small community of men, ordained to priesthood, were to act as chaplains to the monastery of nuns, but under the government of the abbess. The nuns were strictly enclosed, emphasizing scholarship and study, but the monks were also preachers and itinerant missionaries. This painting of St Bridget is in the Dominican convent of San Marco in Florence.

The famous journalist Aldo Maria Valli has been publishing anecdotes of priests telling about their experiences during their time in seminary. The last one was by Father A. who frequented a Northern Italian seminary during the pontificate of Benedict XVI. Fr A was ordained a priest around 2010.
In 2007, in a class on the Second Vatican Council, the students were told that, before the Council, the faithful were “all ignorant” and “didn’t understood anything.” Then John XXIII “opened the windows” and “the Spirit entered the Church.” A. raised his hand and mentioned his deeply faithful grandmother, born in 1903, and said about her: “If we were to compare her pre-conciliar faith with the faith of those here present, none of us would match the love, this old lady had for Christ.”
Although Ratzinger was pope, in classes he was presented as a – quote – “theologian without depth,” as a “little theologian” who says nothing new, and who is more a “historian of theology.” Imagine, a professor …More

Last week, a Gualeguay court, Argentina, found Mother Maria Isabel Toledo of the Holy Trinity, the former prioresse of the Discalzed Carmeliges of Nogoyá, “guilty” of two cases of illegitimate deprivation of liberty, use of physical punishment and threats. Mother was sentenced to three years in prison. She is still free, but once the sentence is final, she will be incarcerated in the female prison of Paraná. The accusers of Mother Maria Isabel are three ex-members. Their accusations have little credibility as a prioresse has no effective means to torture a sister or to keep her against her will in a monastery.
Mother Maria Isabel Toledo was the prioress of a successful community with 18 nuns, a big number for a Carmel and a sign that the monastery was flourishing. But in August 2016, the oligarch magazine Análisis published hyped-up claims of the ex-members. They blamed Mother Maria Isabel for the usual Carmelite practice of.

Dear, I don’t know where you took this info from but…
1) Carmelites weren’t never expelled from the monastery. There were 18 nuns at the moment in which the police broke into the monastery. Mother prioress (Isabel) was separated from the community by the Vatican. 2 nuns went to other Carmels (Concordia and Santa Fe) because they didn’t accept the decision from the Vatican and wanted Isabel back in the monastery. Another nun (Sister Agnes, Inés in Spanish) went to another Carmel because the atmosphere was unbearable in Nogoyá. Another went back to her house, but she was just a postulant. The rest (13 nuns) never left the place.
2) Among the people who testified against Mother Isabel were: the bishop of Paraná and sister Agnes (still a Carmelite nun). And me, I’m the brother of one of the ex-carmelites (you know what! Today my sister told me of another nightmare about the Monastery, 6 years after leaving that place).

Where and how do we encounter God’s revelation made once for-all in Christ Jesus? The answer to this urgent question is explored in Matthias Joseph Scheeben’s Handbook of Catholic Dogmatics, Book One: Theological Epistemology, Part One: The Objective Principles of Theological Knowledge, here translated for the first time in English by Michael J. Miller. Scheeben (1835–1888), a renowned German theologian, in this unabridged first part of a two-volume set, begins with a discussion of the nature and scope of dogmatic theology as a science. He treats divine revelation as the source of theological knowledge and as transmitted in Scripture and in the Apostolic Tradition. Included in this volume is Scheeben’s treatise, “The Objective Principles of Theological Knowledge.” Scheeben writes on faith in its source, contents, and handing on in the Church as it confronts the believer, eliciting his or her assent. "The time came for Elizabeth to have her child, and she gave birth to a son; and when her neighbours and relations heard that the Lord had shown her so great a kindness, they shared her joy. Now on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child; they were going to call him Zechariah after his father, but his mother spoke up. ‘No,’ she said ‘he is to be called John.’ They said to her, ‘But no one in your family has that name’, and made signs to his father to find out what he wanted him called. The father asked for a writing-tablet and wrote, ‘His name is John.’ And they were all astonished. At that instant his power of speech returned and he spoke and praised God. All their neighbours were filled with awe and the whole affair was talked about throughout the hill country of Judaea. All those who heard of it treasured it in their hearts. ‘What will this child turn out to be?’ they wondered. And indeed the hand of the Lord was with him. The Chilean author José Antonio Ureta of the Plinio Corrêa de Oliveira Institute writes that the Instrumentum Laboris, the working paper, for the Amazon Synod shows a strong propensity toward a “deification of nature” which is promoted in UN environmental conferences since at least 1972. This neo-pagan UN agenda is now about to enter the Catholic Church. According to Ureta the Instrumentum Laboris represents a “total opening of the gates of the Magisterium to Indian theology and eco-theology” which includes – quote - “clearly pagan” and “pantheistic elements of belief”.
But the “real earthquake” is according to Ureta contained in Nr. 127 of the Instrumentum Laboris which says that – quote – “it would be opportune to reconsider the notion that the exercise of jurisdiction must be connected in all areas and in a permanent way to the Sacrament of Holy Orders.” Nr. 127 calls therefore into question the essential difference between the common priesthood of the faithful and the ministerial …More

"I'm a traditionalist and I informed the Pope of this in a letter I sent to him through the Nunciature," Latvian Cardinal Janis Pujats told Polonia Christiana on 4 June. Pujats added that the discipline of the sacraments should be observed in the Church, especially regarding the Sacrament of Matrimony. He pointed out that the Church must not imitate the sins of the world and, for example, bless homosexual couples. Pujats also explained that sexual atheism is more dangerous than Communist atheism.
Pujats criticized that in many churches very few stand in line for confession, but all go to communion. Quote: "I never allowed that in my church." The communion queues introduced after the Council produce a group pressure so that the people feel obliged to go to communion in order not to stand out, the Cardinal explains. Pujats warned that the priests will be held responsible before God for this abuse.

mary'sdowry Saint Bertha was a French princess, deeply, piously Catholic, who was given in marriage to the pagan King Ethelbert of Kent on condition that she would be permitted to attend the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass offered by her accompanying confessor and priest. King Ethelbert agreed and was soon won over to the Catholic Faith by his wife's example. Before that, however, Pope Saint Gregory the Great sent Saint Augustine and his monks on a mission to Kent to share the Catholic Faith with the pagan Kentish people. King Ethelbert received the missionaries kindly because of Saint Bertha. The seat of the Catholic Church in England was established in Canterbury until the Protestant Reformation. In this film clip from the DVD 'Saint Bertha: Queen of Kent' by Mary's Dowry Productions, we take a brief but informative look at the rise and fall of Canterbury Cathedral and the new Seat of the Catholic Church in England at Westminster. Butler'sLivesoftheSaints JULIA was a noble virgin of Carthage, who, when the city was token by Genseric in 439, was sold for a slave to a pagan merchant of Syria named Eusebius. Under the most mortifying employments of her station, by cheerfulness and patience she found a happiness and comfort which the world could not have afforded. All the time she was not employed in her master's business was devoted to prayer and reading books of piety. Her master, who was charmed with her fidelity and other virtues, thought proper to carry her with him on one of his voyages to Gaul. Having reached the northern part of Corsica, he cast anchor, and went on shore to join the pagans of the place in an idolatrous festival. Julia was left at some distance, because she would not be defiled by the superstitious ceremonies which she openly reviled. Felix, the governor of the island, who was a bigoted pagan, asked who this woman was who dared to insult the gods. Eusebius informed him that she was a …More
