Why Christianity is Disappearing

After a recent referendum has introduced abortion in Ireland, the blog Mundabor pointed out that Pope Francis and the bishops have been either silent concerning the vote, or so tame that it was exactly the same in the end. Quote, “The defence of human life must be a constant preoccupation, not an occasional remark.” Mundabor adds that Christianity is disappearing from Europe because the clergy is not interested in keeping it in.

A Suffocating Oligarch Consensus

On her Spectator blog, Melanie McDonagh expressed her surprise that a third of the Irish electorate voted against abortion given that this big minority had nil, zero, nada, representation in either politics or media. All the party leaders campaigned for abortion. The suffocating consensus in the oligarch media was such that only two pro-life columnists were allowed as a token concession to impartiality: Breda O’Brien for the Irish Times and David Quinn for the Irish Sunday Times.

A Homeless Carmelite

The 61-year-old Carmelite postulant, Brother Michael Ignatius has been living for several months as a homeless near San Diego International Airport as part of a one-man ministry to those living on the streets, writes the local diocesan newspaper. Widowed nine years ago after almost 29 years of marriage with four adult children he essentially gave away all his possession relying entirely on God’s providence. A cross and a scapular are the only telltale signs that he is a religious brother. He prays the breviary and tries to attend Mass daily. Often he invites other homeless to join him for Sunday Mass. This coming October, he hopes to start his novitiate.

Liturgical Renewal in Uganda

Young Uganda Catholics cause the rebirth of the Latin Mass, the Uganda Daily Monitor writes. Every Sunday morning, mostly young Catholics meet at the Uganda Catholic Management and Training Institute at Rubaga Cathedral, Kampala to attend the Old Latin Mass. The Mass is celebrated by Father Christophe Nouveau. In 2015 the first Traditional Latin mass was celebrated in Uganda after 46 years. The Daily Monitor points out that clapping, dancing or ululating are not permitted during this Mass because they take the mind of the congregation away from what matters.

Ululating?
Before today I never heard this word nor have I seen it written. However, I’ve determined that Ululating can be a worthwhile skill to be used at progressive N.O. masses, weddings, funerals, baptisms, bar mitzvahs, birthdays and for simply hailing a cab in a busy downtown street. 👌
