When clergy make heretical or false statements - which many do - we have the obligation to correct them. Not all of us are ignorant about our faith. Because we are a captive audience during a homily many priests, even traditional ones, make off-the-wall statements. If you listen closely enough you can figure out their agenda, Example: Once heard a priest talk about the "atrocities" of the Crusaders against the Muslims and because of this the Catholic Church need to send reparations. What none sense! I agree that we show respect for the office of the priesthood but this does not give clergy the license to preach falsehoods.
