Perspectives Daily - Concern Over The Growing "I Am Catholic But.." Attitude in The Philippines.

saltandlighttv on Apr 20, 2017 In addition to the Pope’s upcoming trip to Egypt this month, and a trip to Portugal in May, the Vatican has announced that the Pope will visit the northern Italian cities of Chesena and Bologna in October.

This pastoral visit coincides with the 300th anniversary of the birth of Pope Pius 6th who was Pope from 1775 until his death in 1799. A statement released by the Archdiocese of Bologna says the Pope’s visit will coincide with the, Diocesan Eucharistic Congress”, an event where the faithful are invited to renew their “efforts towards the diffusion, knowledge, and understanding of Sacred Scripture”.

Of course we’ll update you with our broadcast details of this trip when they become available.

This summer, a historic convocation will bring together more than 3,000 Catholic leaders to a convention in July. The goal of this conference is to focus on how the Pope's apostolic exhortation: The Joy of the Gospel, applies in the United States. This gathering of Catholic Leaders comes at a time when the U.S. Catholic Church is trying to see how to best respond to a changing social landscape while bringing the Pope's vision of a church that offers mercy and joy to the world.

Jonathan Reyes, executive director of the U.S. bishops' Department of Justice, Peace and Human Development sees this gathering as a way for Catholics across the spectrum of the church to unify in Christ. This massive gathering will be held on July 1-4 in Orlando Florida. And you can get all the detail at the US Bishop’s website listed below.

Here in Canada, The 10th annual Alberta March for Life is just around the corner and for our viewers in the west, it would be a great event to come out to and support. The Rally will take place on Thursday May 11th in Edmonton starting at 12 noon, at the Sir Winston Churchill Square, then move to the Alberta Legislature.
There will be many events in the days leading up to the event, so be sure to check the organizing website at: AlbertaMarchForLife.com for details.

To the Philippines now where the head of the country's bishops conference expressed concern over the: "rebuffing of church morals and doctrine", an attitude which he says, is becoming a growing trend in his country. Archbishop Villegas of the Philippines opened his Easter message with a searing rebuke of the faithful in his country, questioning their behavior

"How many of our Catholics openly and blatantly declare, 'I am a Catholic, but I agree that drug addicts must be killed. I am a Catholic but I am pro-death penalty. ... I am a Catholic, but I do not always obey my bishop, he is too old-fashioned. ... I am a priest but my bishop's circulars are optional for obedience. ... I am a Catholic but ... I am a Catholic but ..."
The Archbishop continued to say, that it's become "fashionable" to make priests and bishops "the punching bags of public officials.. to the glee of our parishioners."

If this behavior continues, the Archbishop expects to see "more priests and bishops dying as martyrs."
The entire message can be read on the Pagadian diocese website listed below.
