He Stands By His Insults Against the Pope

USA

Harry Knox, a member of Barack Obama’s Advisory Council on Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships, has stood by his past comment that Pope Benedict XVI is “hurting people in the name of Jesus” – American Papist Blog has reported. Knox is a former Methodist minister and a homosexual leader. He made his comments originally in March 2009 in response to Pope Benedict’s comments about the effectiveness of condoms in fighting AIDS in Africa. “The Pope’s statement that condoms don’t help control the spread of HIV, but rather condoms increase infection rates, is hurting people in the name of Jesus,” Knox had claimed at that time. CNSNews.com spoke with Knox at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday. Asked if he stood by his comments, he said “I do.”

Vatican

The Vatican Congregation for The Institutes o Consecrated Life and the Societies of Apostolic Life will issue in autumn a document about religious brothers, Vatican Radio reports. The prefect of the Congregation, Cardinal Franc Rodé said that the document must ensure that the special mission of the lay brothers in the Church is strengthened. In recent decades the number of lay brothers has fallen dramatically.

Catholic Weekly Bumps Leftist Magazine

Poland

A Catholic weekly, Gosc Niedzielny, tops the latest circulation figures among Poland's periodicals. The Catholic magazine is sponsored by the Katowice archdiocese. It bumped a leftist magazine, Polityka, from the top position it had held for more than 20 years. The editorial policies of Gosc Niedzielny are illustrated by the fact that last year the editor, Father Marek Gancarczyk, was fined by the European Court of Human Rights for referring to abortion as "killing" in commenting on a controversial Polish case.

Reassessed

UK Belgium

A man in a deeply unconscious state for five years has been able to communicate with doctors using just his thoughts. British and Belgian researchers used an MRI brain scanner to show the man was able to think "yes" or "no" answers to questions by willfully changing his brain activity. The man suffered a severe traumatic brain injury in a road accident in 2003. Scientists say that this is a "game changer" for care of vegetative state patients. All patients in coma-like states should be reassessed.
