Creating Confusion: On February 24, Pope Francis commented during his homily on the prohibition of divorce in the Gospel of Mark. He couched the crystal-clear, unequivocal words of Jesus in tortuous reasoning and went so far as to claim that Jesus did not answer if the repudiation of a woman is licit or not licit.

Casuistry: During this homily Pope Francis again polemicized against what he called “casuistry.” But Sandro Magister points out that casuistry is precisely what “Amoris Laetitia” wants, when it calls for case-by-case “discernment” on whom to admit to communion and whom not."

Francis Effect? In 2015 there were 108,000 Catholic marriages in Italy. This is a drop of over 30 percent compared to eight years ago.

Blaming Celibacy: Perth Archbishop Timothy Costelloe said on Friday in Sydney that celibacy contributed to - quote - "many cases" of child sexual abuse by Australian priests." Sydney Archbishop Anthony Fisher said instead that he did not blame celibacy for child sexual abuse in the same way he did not blame marriage for adultery.

Has pederasty something to do with celibacy?

For a better perspective, it might be a good idea to read more of the article to see first hand the pope's alleged “tortuous reasoning” in all its glory. Francis quotes from the Gospel: Jesus said bluntly to his disciples: Whoever repudiates his wife and marries another commits adultery against her, and if the wife repudiates her husband and marries another commits adultery.”

However, in the next paragraph Francis then asked: if it’s true that Jesus defined adultery as a grave sin, how is it possible that Jesus also spoke with an adulterer and said to her at one point, “I don’t condemn you, go and sin no more?” Francis then says: “The path of Jesus, and we see this clearly, is a journey from casuistry (casuistry: the use of clever but unsound reasoning, especially in relation to moral questions ) to truth and mercy.”

The coup de grâce is Francis' final sentence: “The Lord helps us understand this path, which isn’t easy, but it will make us happy, and will make lots of people happy,” he said.

-------------------------------------------------
To recap:
1) Francis quotes Christ words which literally defines the sin of adultery.

2) Francis creates a false equivalence with those words and an entirely different scriptural passage which speaks of the possibility of forgiveness for the sin of adultery (go and sin no more). However, in no way does the second passage condone or tolerate the sin of adultery itself.

3) Finally, Francis gives us the final solution and the ultimate goal meant for Catholics but undoubtedly would apply to Muslims, Jews, etc. of his discussion on adultery. That end result is not sanctity, not holiness, not union with God but rather to make lots of people happy. 😀
