Dear brothers and sisters, the passage of the Gospel we'll listen next Sunday, January 27th, will present Jesus who in the synagogue of Nazareth, after reading a passage from the Prophet Isaiah announcing joy and miracles, linked to the advent of the Messiah, will pronounce that famous words of His: "Today this Scripture passage is fulfilled in your hearing." (Lk 4:21)
Benedict XVI, Pope Emeritus, during the Angelus pronounced Sunday, January 27, 2013, commenting on this passage, among other things, stated:
Every day (kathçmeran) can become the today of our salvation, because salvation is a story that is ongoing for the Church and for every disciple of Christ. This is the Christian meaning of “carpe diem”: seize the day in which God is calling you to give you salvation!
That's the truth, dear brothers and sisters, God reveals to us, the Christians, through the Gospel of His Son, the secret of the "carpe diem", the secret, that is, to get our heart explode with joy, light, life and love! The secret is: to make room in our heart to the Holy Spirit, the pure and boundless ocean of the love of the Father and of the Son, that makes us “get out of ourselves”. The Spirit of Christ, in fact, urges us going into the world, as peacemakers, to build bridges and not walls. The Holy Spirit gives us the power to destroy corruption and restoring purity and beauty in relationships between men, who are no more enemies, but brothers and sisters in Christ. The Spirit of the Father makes us “Warriors of the light”, able to bring joy and enthusiasm where sadness, discouragement, fear and despair are!
