It follows CBA-owned Bankwest's decision to do the same last month, closing down all branches and forcing customers into online banking. The Australian Media Writer Sophie Elsworth has discussed Macquarie Banks' decision to go cashless. “I think it’s a shocking thing,” Ms Elsworth told Sky News host Peta Credlin. “There are situations where we need cash particularly if there’s a flood or a cyclone. “I think this is very dangerous if we have no cash in society and particularly for older Australians who love operating in cash.”

In 2021, a man suffering from gender ideas of being a 'woman' argued that Mexican privacy law required the Diocese of Querétaro to comply with the request, regardless of biological reality and historical facticity. As a result, Mexico's National Data Protection Institute ruled that the diocese had to amend the baptismal records. The diocese challenged the decision and won in a district court. An appeals court now upheld the decision on the grounds that the Church has a constitutionally protected right to manage its internal affairs without government interference.
