The superior of the German district of the Priestly Society of Saint Pius X., Father Franz Schmidberger, commented on health issues of Benedict XVI – quote: “From relatively well informed sources we have heard that the pope suffers from depressions”.
Conclave With a number of front-runners reportedly emerging among the cardinals, no choice is expected on the first ballot. The electors are said to have split roughly into two groups -- those who wish to reform the Vatican's bureaucracy and are backing Italian Cardinal Angelo Scola, and cardinals who work at the Vatican who back Brazilian Cardinal Odilo Scherer, who has himself worked in the Curia.

Then they attend a pre-conclave Mass with the public in St. Peter's Basilica before filing into the Sistine Chapel at 4:30 p.m. for the first ballot. The cardinals are due to return to their residence at 7:30 p.m. Vatican spokesman Father Federico Lombardi noted however that at the last conclave in 2005 the black smoke announcing no result on the first day of voting was emitted about 8 p.m.

Timothy Cardinal Dolan made his first public appearance after nearly a week of silence when he celebrated Mass at Our Lady of Guadalupe in Rome. After Mass, Dolan went out to the press gathered outside the Church. He didn’t say whether any favorite has emerged among the cardinals, but he compared the process of getting to know the other Cardinals to the process of getting married. Quote: “You get to know them, you listen to them, it’s like when you marry.”

I am so happy to hear that Cardinal O'Malley doesn't speak any Italian. For some reason Catholic Media, in the USA seems to think he is a great choice for Pope. I have even heard this from EWTN and I know that they are more, middle of the road, but a such as leftist leaning Cardinal as O'Malley is someone I wouldn't expect them to endorse.

Correction for the news on Boston's Cardinal O’Malley. Cardinal O'Malley does speak Italian as well as fluent Spanish and Portuguese!
