If you are a woman living in Paris, there's some good news, it's finally legal to wear trousers in the City of Lights.

On January 31st, an old law was finally repealed, making it impossible to arrest a woman for wearing trousers in the French Capital.

The rule previously required ladies to seek permission from police to wear trousers prior to dressing like men. If they failed to do so, they could be detained.

The law was later amended in the late 1800s and early 1900s. It allowed women to wear trousers only if they were holding the reins of a horse or a bicycle handlebar. France's minister of women's rights, Najat Vallaud-Belkacem, officially made it legal for women in Paris to wear trousers.

She stated "This ordinance is incompatible with the principles of equality between women and men, which are listed in the Constitution, and in France's European commitments."

Earlier this year, another law pertaining to women made reports, but for different reasons. A city in Aceh province in Indonesia ruled that women who are passengers on motorcycles must sit "side straddled", meaning that both of their legs must dangle to one side only."
