Wake up, wake up, you German country (actually: A newes Christian song / Thus Deutschland manages to repent) is a Lutheran spiritual song that calls the sleep of sin lying Germany and want to wake up. Johann Walter created the text and the melody in 1561. The original 26-verses song is contained in a seven-degree version in the Protestant hymnal (No. 145). In the Mennonite Hymnbook (# 495), under the title Wake Up, wake up, you'll find our country in a six-staged version.
