The title of saint means the person has lived a holy life…now resides in heaven…and is to be held in esteem by the universal Church. Here’s a list of Catholic Saints that are well known all over the world and a few details about their lives. Topping the list is St. Joan of Arc, the patroness of soldiers and France.

Given a small army of her own, she pulled off a series of amazing military success to help the King of France reconquer his kingdom. After being captured by the enemy she was condemned to death and burned at the state on May 30, 1431, at just nineteen years old. Pope Benedict XV canonized Joan in 1920.

Another well known on the list of Catholic saints is St. John the Baptist. He is considered to have lead a holy life because he urged many of his followers to seek Christ.

John recognized Jesus as the Messiah and baptized him. Because he denounced the Herod Antipas’s adulterous and incestuous marriage to his half brother’s half wife Herodias, and because Herod feared his great power, John was arrested and later beheaded at the request of Salome, Herodias daughter.
