Bishop Schneider: Shadows with John Paul II

The pontificate of John Paul II was "mixed." It consisted of positive acts and writings, as well as ambiguities and shadows, said Bishop Athanasius Schneider in an interview with @cjm-media and Gloria.tv (video below).

He recalls the 1990s, when he was doing his doctorate in patristics in Rome, during a time when John Paul II began handing out Communion om St Peter's: "That was very painful for me."

Schneider's family lived in Germany, where liturgical decline was already well underway at the time. Once Schneider's mother told him on the phone:

"I am horrified by what is happening in the church of my parish. You know, I'd rather be back in the Soviet Union, in the persecution of the underground church, rather be without a priest for a year than experience what's happening here."

Without J-P II's pontificate Francis would not have been possible, except in the future!

Tony Smith

JP II was a conservative destroyer of the faith.
