US Used Covid to Promote Surveillance State

According to Vice.com (May 3), the CDC paid $420,000 for location data obtained from SafeGraph to track tens of millions of cell phones. The CDC denies [= confirms] having tracked specific people. Nevertheless, the move set off alarm bells with privacy advocates.
Zach Edwards, a cybersecurity researcher, told Vice.com that the CDC had broader ambitions with the location data than just checking on Covid obedience.
It included monitoring curfews, visits among neighbours, church attendance, going to schools and pharmacies, and also a variety of analysis specifically focused on “violence.”
