shalomworld New saint Indian Martyr Devasahayam Pillai to be Canonised Pope Francis has authorized Cardinal Angelo Becciu, the Prefect of the Vatican Congregation for the Causes of Saints, to promulgate 8 decrees regarding 10 candidates, clearing two of them for sainthood. Among them is Indian martyr, Devasahayam Pillai, an 18th century high- caste Hindu who converted to Catholicism. He was a royal administrator of the then Travancore Dynasty in Kerala. Nilakandan Pillai got baptized in 1745 and assumed the name ‘Devasahayam' meaning 'God's help'.Four years after embracing Christianity, he was arrested in 1794 and was brutally tortured for three years to deny his faith. Later, he was taken to Aralvaimozhy forest in Travancore Province and was shot dead on January 14, 1752. Devasahayam Pillai is the first beatified lay martyr from India. He was declared Blessed on December 2, 2012, in Kottar, 300 years after his birth.The date of his canonisation will be announced later. Carlo Acutis to be beatified ‘Computer Geek’ Carlos Acutis to be beatified Pope Francis has authorized the Congregation for Saints to promulgate a decree, concerning the miracle attributed to the intercession of Carlo Acutis, paving the way to his beatification.The miracle concerns the healing of a Brazilian boy. Carlo Acutis was born in London in the year 1991. His parents raised him as a devout Catholic. At the age of 7, Carlo Acutis received his first holy communion. Carlo was a computer genius. He created a catalog of Eucharistic miracles around the world. In 2006 Carlo Acutis was diagnosed with leukemia. He offered his pain for both Pope Benedict XVI and for the Universal Church. Carlo was called to his eternal reward on October 12, 2006, at the age of 15. On November 14, 2019, the Medical Board of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints met and expressed positive opinion regarding the alleged miracle attributed to the intercession of Carlo Acutis. Carlo Acutis was declared Venerable by Pope Francis on July 5, 2018. The beatification date of Carlo is expected to be announced soon. ‘Protect Life Rule’ Anti-abortion revision upheld by Court The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals has approved Trump administration’s decision on policy revision of the Title X program last Monday. The “Protect Life Rule” changed eligibility requirements and bars clinics that provide abortion services from receiving funds from the program. The Protect Life Rule also requires that clinics receiving federal funds be located in a different physical location than an abortion facility by March 2020. Title X federal program was introduced in 1970 to financially aid low-income families in family-planning and providing preventative health care services.
